West Virginia's White Accepts Under Armour Senior Bowl Invite

Daphne native will play quarterback in 2009 game

MOBILE, Ala. (December 10, 2008) -- West Virginia
quarterback Pat White will give his hometown fans an opportunity to cheer him on in person next month. The Daphne, AL. native has accepted an invitation to play in the 2009 Under Armour Senior Bowl at Ladd-Peebles Stadium on January 24. The game will kickoff at 6 pm (CT) and will be televised nationally by the NFL Network.

One of the most dynamic players in the game today, White heads to Mobile with a long and impressive resume. In three plus years as the Mountaineers starting quarterback, White has compiled a 38 and 8 record, including a 7 and 4 mark this season (he sat out the Syracuse game with an injury). The former Daphne High standout owns 16 West Virginia, Big East and NCAA records. After leading his team to two BCS Bowl victories in his career, White will look to go a perfect 4 and 0 in bowl games on December 27th against North Carolina in the Meineke Car Care Bowl.

The two-time Big East Offensive Player of the Year is coming to the Port City as a quarterback. "I think that Pat White proved to the nation this season that he can beat you with more than just his legs," Senior Bowl President Steve Hale said. "He deserves the chance to perform in front of the NFL coaches and scouts in attendance here that week as a quarterback."

White's numbers back-up that assessment. In 2008, he threw for 1,510 yards and 18 touchdowns. For his career he has thrown for 5,717 yards and 53 scores. He is also a finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, given annually to the nation's top senior quarterback.

White was once again equally effective rushing the ball in 2008, rolling up 919 yards and another eight scores on the ground. He leaves WVU as the NCAA's all-time leading rusher for a quarterback with 4,425 yards and is tops in Big East history with 100 career TDs (53 passing, 47 rushing).
