December 16, 1978: More than a century after playing in college football's first game, Rutgers makes its postseason debut at the inaugural Garden State Bowl in Giants Stadium. The Scarlet Knights take an early lead, but Arizona State's Mark Malone accounts for five touchdowns for a 34-18 win.
