This Date in College Football History


Oct. 8, 1955: In Auburn, fullback Joe Childress and halfback Fob James (future Alabama governor) move into first and second place on Auburn's career rushing list, passing the mark set in 1942 by Monk Gafford (1,435 yards rushing). The Tigers play to a 14-14 tie with Kentucky.
