ROSLYN, Pa. (AP) -- Rutgers junior halfback Ray Rice was named one of the 15 semifinalists for the Maxwell Award on Wednesday.
Rice was a finalist last season for the award given by the Maxwell Football Club to its college player of the year. Rice has rushed for 1,257 yards this season to rank sixth nationally and first in the Big East Conference. His 15 touchdowns are tied for
12th in the nation.
For his career, Rice has rushed for 4,171 yards, the most in Rutgers history and the second-best total in conference history. He has scored a school-record 39 rushing touchdowns, fifth-best in Big East history.
Rice leads all active players nationally with a career average of 122.7 yards.
The award will be announced on Dec. 6.
