Sept. 10, 1983: Alabama beats Georgia Tech in the debut of new Crimson Tide head coach Ray Perkins, who replaced future College Football Hall of Fame Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant. The team wore houndstooth hat decals on their helmets in honor of Coach Bryant, as Bama wins 20-7 in Birmingham.
