Oct. 16, 1982: In Dallas, Southern Methodist running back Eric Dickerson rushes for 206 yards in the second half as No. 5 Mustangs stay unbeaten with a 20-14 win over Houston. Dickerson ends the day with 241 rushing yards.

Sept. 22, 1956: In the first-ever September loss for a Notre Dame team, the Irish fall to Southern Methodist University 19-13 in Dallas. Notre Dame fakes a punt in the fourth quarter to score and tie the game 13-13, but Mustang quarterback Charlie Arnold throws a 31-yard pass to Lon Slaughter to set up a 14- yard touchdown run for the win as time expires.

This Date in College Football History
Sept. 2, 1989: Having not beaten an SMU team in over a decade, Rice beats the Mustangs 35-6 in Dallas ending an 18-game losing streak. Owls quarterback Donald Hollas throws for 222 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 82 yards and two touchdowns. The Mustangs, returning after two years of not having a football program, started 18 freshmen and only had 41 scholarship players.
