Exclusive: Draft Journal - Rhett Bomar, QB

January 14, 2009

I signed with Bus Cook as my agent.

I have been training in Atlanta CES. I have been here about three weeks now. Basically just lifting and position specific stuff. We have been getting read for the Senior Bowl. Working on drops and agility. I have been throwing some. I have been working a lot on drop backs from under center since I have been in the shotgun a lot. We did a little bit of it at Sam Houston though. I have been lifting and gained some weight. I weigh 225 now.

I will be here mainly to prepare for the Senior Bowl and will be back for a while after the Senior Bowl. I report to the Senior Bowl in a week. I am not going to the East-West Shrine Game. I am looking forward to it.

I haven’t technically got the invite from the combine yet. I have been told I am in but my school email sometimes doesn’t work.

Talk to you next week.

Sincerely,
Rhett Bomar, QB, Sam Houston State

Right now I am in West Lake Village working out for the Combine and Senior Bowl. It is a quiet town with not too many distractions.

I am working out with Travelle Gaines at Elite Fitness. A lot of others are doing the same thing I am doing. There are guys from 1st rounders to free agents. Right now I am training with Brandon Gibson, Coye Francies, Chris Owens (my roommate), Jerraud Powers, a safety from Arizona State and Nevada, Khalil Bell and number of linemen. One linemen from UC Davis so we are familiar with each other. Some others working out are Brigham Harwell, and some QB Mike Reilly and Rudy Carpenter. I feel like there will be more to come in the next week or so. Everybody is working hard. We got a good culture. It has been a good experience so far. I am getting faster, stronger, and quicker. All of the things that will help me make the transition to the NFL and not only make me better but show my skills that have attracted scouts so far.

I received Shrine and Senior Bowl invites but I am only going to the Senior Bowl. I feel Senior Bowl helps me with timing to let me train more before a bowl game and gives me a chance against the best competition in the country to show I am as good as or better than those.

I got the combine invite in the last week or so. All of the chips are falling into place. I just want to make sure I get the most out of each day as far as getting better, staying focused, and getting mentally prepared.

I will be back Friday.

Sincerely,
Ramses Barden, WR, Cal Poly

Right now I am in Pensacola, Florida training at API. I signed with Scott Smith of XAM Sports. They have us staying at a resort right off the beach in a beautiful area. It is a great place to come back to after a hard day of training. The API facility is right across the bridge of the resort.

We are working on speed development and acceleration along with power and proper squat technique. Even though we aren’t doing what I am used to at school it is a lot of form and technique training but you still feel just as sore. You are putting in work in a more efficient manner. It brings a new aspect to training that I enjoy. The personal trainer we lift with use to be the strength coach of the Giants and he often tells us about past players he helped. He teaches us ways to translate our squat out to exploding out in a block. It helps me in that I haven’t had a ton of technique work. I think it will make me an overall better player.

It is about two weeks away from the Texas vs. Nation game and we are still preparing to get faster and stronger but next week the position coaches show up and we will incorporate position drills in our workout. I look forward to it coming from a small school. I think my technique has always been a little suspect. I know it will only get better with a little coaching. I feel there is a huge upside to all of this training.

I got a combine invite. I found out about a week ago and that was great. I had always felt like I was going to get a combine invite based on what I heard from scouts and my coaches and it was a big sigh of relief to get it. I am anxious and looking forward to competing against the top linemen in the nation and seeing where I measure up. I am going to do my best and let God take me as far as he wants me to go.

Sincerely,
Roger Allen, OG, Missouri Western
